Could you please tell me how to make it works? This is not a joke but I cannot get it work out. I have used many trainers form here and no one ever had any issues.
Here is mine
1. Download the latest version of auto-updating trainer 2. Open the trainer then open the game, press F1 3. Then close the game and let trainer update itself 4. Re-open the game again and press F1 when the game in action, single player offline mode of course. Heard "trainer activated". 5. Then press desired keys and heard "on" but not a single of them could work. My survivors still has to do a reload and can die. 6. Then I close the game, delete the new .dat file and redo the process from 2-4 again and still not work.
I followed the instructions pwiz posted at the beginning of this thread saw and I get the result you are having so i sympathise

I've had no end of problems with this. Out of the maybe 30 times I've tried to use it, it's worked once. 1 time. Every time, I follow the instructions EXACTLY, and every time, it fails. To be specific, every time I try to use the trainer, it tries to auto-update. I let it do it's thing, as per the instructions, and then when I try again, it does the same friggin thing. The auto-update doesn't work. Please just make a new version of the trainer for the latest patch.
The auto update trainer works for me. I just deleted the dat file and the trainer will create new dat file for the new game version when you press F1 in-game.
Steam compatible version please. It seems the current one is only work with retail version and not Steam downloaded, even the latest patched.
Er, not to me sarcastic, but Left 4 Dead 2 is made by Valve, and Valve ARE Steam, there is no non-steam version of Left 4 Dead 2 unless it's an illegal copy. ALL left 4 Dead 2 copies are steam, so there will be no non-steam version of the trainer.
Also, I followed the trainer instructions, press F1 when you are in FIRST PERSON MODE as in DURING A LEVEL where your shooting, not at the main menu like most CH trainers, after deleting the .dat file in the directory where your L4D2 trainer is and it auto-updates correctly, then restart L4D2 and the trainer and it works perfectly fine.
Instructions are awesome and work fine for me! if yours aren't then it's likely something blocking the trainer from updating, AV's / Firewalls etc

It's probably important to mention that retail boxed version will require the installation of steam, which is on the disc, to play L4D2.
And, if it helps, I am able to play L4D2 with the trainer with Microsoft Security Essentials still running and on. I just schedule a scanning for a time outside my playing.
ok, i got this trainer working with the newest updates for the game. i tried it two times and the first time it didn't work, so maybe this detailed description of what i did, can be of help to anyone who also cannot get it working..
this is what i tried first: delete CHLFD2.dat launch trainer launch game start offline campaign kill a few zombies press F1 kill a few more zombies quit the game press OK to update the trainer wait press OK to quit the trainer restart the trainer restart the game press F1 in the menu start offline campaign press desired option keys
now this method didn't work, the trainer options didn't get enabled.
so in my second attempt, i did the following: delete CHLFD2.dat launch trainer launch game start offline campaign kill a few zombies press F1 kill a few more zombies press ALT+TAB to switch out of the game press OK to update the trainer wait press OK to quit the trainer switch back into the game quit the game restart the trainer restart the game press F1 in the menu start offline campaign press desired option keys
