Im in the process of trying to get my hands on a PS3 SDK with software, if successful, I will try and find a way of creating a trainer that can be copied to the PS3 and run via the XMB (much like a downloaded demo etc) which will give a menu to select options and then load the game (or ask for the disk to be put in the drive) when done.
These things are tough to get, Sony doesn't throw these about like Candy, but I am hopeful at least

You really thing that Sony is going to allow apps to write to other apps by simply using the SDK? Get real. If this was the case then hackers long ago would have created a software-based modchip utility and used it for much more nefarious things than trainers.

Nice attitude Chris. Way to go.
A loader is different, for what you suggest for warez issues, since the PS3 double checks a disk, first on initial load and then a few seconds later, so no loaders can be developed to do that job or else you would have seen them by now.
As for a trainer on the fly and loading a legit game that is more than doable, I just need the SDK and tools to debug games, and using the kit make up an UMD to be run from the XMB.
It would also change the way the game uses encryption on save games so that nobody could load up a pre-trained game with specific items etc, and also disable the PSN in the game so nobody can get cheap achievements.
But meh.. You know how to bring gloom to joy :P

I'll be more than impressed if you can make it happen, but I feel quite certain that you're not going to be able to write values into the memory of another game, legit or otherwise, even using a loader. If it were that simple then the boys at GameShark/Action Replay would have created an app/device long ago. They tried and failed multiple times and finally gave up, even with having access to the SDK and other tools from Sony.

Peeps at AR have been in a legal battle with Sony about numerous stuff, mem cards etc.
So I am sure they have a "device" similar to the PS2's ARMAX, but cant get the go ahead cause of the legal battles.
This has all stemmed round the fact that ARMAX's were used to create non-modchipped PS2's able to run backups. Through FREE MCBOOT. Other ways of doing it but one of the popular methods was with the latest ARMAX.

Well, statistically speaking, you are more likely to find a cure for cancer... but hey, don't let that deter you
