Okay, recently I have had trouble with my xbox 360. I have never had any problems with it before but lately when I turn it on I can get about 10 minutes out of it before the screen turns all sorts of colours (mainly greens, reds and blues) but I still have full use of the sound. Sometimes when I turn my 360 off then on again it works fine for anything from 10 minutes to and hour, then the problem repeats.
I've tried replacing the av cables (I use the av not HD cable set up which is correct for my older television. I read about "The Towel Trick" which I have used and sometimes proves to be effective for several hours, other times having no effect at all.
I can't really afford a new xbox right now, is there anything I can actually do to get my picture back working properly?

If the problem keeps coming back it's something with the hardware. My RRoD acted the same way. Call Microsoft Tech Support, they'll tell you how to figure out what's wrong and then tell you what can be done.

If you've got a warranty left or if it's the right type of problem they'll replace it for free. Otherwise you have to pay, I don't know how much that costs.
I don't want a big car, particularly. I have no need for acreage, and I don't like the fuel bills. But I don't want a small one because they're all like supermarket own-brand cola: weedy imitations of the real thing - Jeremy Clarkson

Its your GPU. You will have to get it fixed unless you open up your console which will void warranty.

I would suggest you get it traded in for the new model while you still can, if it does what you say it does then you should get away with being able to trade it in.

I don't have a warranty anymore. So is there anything I could try before a trade in. And has anyone got an idea of how much you can trade an xbox in for in the uk?

The last time I checked, Game were doing a deal on where you could get the new console for £100 if you trade in your old one. The same happened to my console before I got the RROD for the third time, so I'd suggest you do somehing about it while you still can.

But just hope the console lasts long enough for them to check it.
