I voted floor, but I don't really throw it directly downwards. Usually it's more of a slide towards the television indicating that I'm done playing before I actually chuck it across the room.

I can't afford a new controller, so I can't actually throw it. Math books are much sturdier, and satisfyingly heavy to throw.
