It's better, that the application decide, because otherwise it set for every game same settings, what is bad.
Quality = 8AF & 4AA what is to much for the GPU
Balanced = 4AF & 2AA what could be much in some games

So it's better if you make the settings ingame depends on the game.

can i know what GPU do you have.

I always prefer balanced. Who would like to play a graphical masterpiece that lags like hell or a game that looks 10 years old (Because of low settings) that has an awesome FPS rate?

can you give an example of a game you have played.

    Torchlight.

Life is best for those who enjoy it, difficult for those who analyze it and worst for those who criticize it.

It don't matter which one i have, but his one isn't fastest
It's enough to check out some tests with 9500 GT and you will see, that that card isn't able to handle with AA/AF.
Tested what this settings change on 9600 GT in my HTPC.

As you see, you should be happy, if you are able to play with this card without AA/AF.

because i think if you have any nVidia 200 series GPU you will be able to run any game with the highest graphic and super AA/AF.
when i buy a game i spent about two hours trying to define the best graphics i can have , i over clock my GPU ,i close every program i opened....
for example i've bought ARMA 2 OA and it was very slow so i've reduced the graphics to very low so i can be able to play it.
    it's very annoying.

If you have a low performance, it is more annoying than having a low quality.

It's been a long time coming.

i go for balanced and let the application decide. safer for the hardware that way.
