I had my Elite for a good year before it RRoD'd, then I bought a Pro, fixed the Elite and gave it to my brother. I play them sometimes up to 11/12 hours straight, if I know I'll be doing it for awhile I install the game to the HD to remove a bit of stress on the console. Really, it's not nearly as big of a problem as people make it out to be.

I think overall i've had the RROD three times, the latter time i just decided to buy a new console. But that isn't bad for almost 4 years of pretty regular gaming on it.

I had borrowed a X30 elite for over a week.
Actually this problem has been solved in jaspers, You don't be worried about this problem if you obey some basic rules.
Keep your console in a cool place, not in front of cooler, (direct wind).
Also don't turn it off/on too much. that hurts console more than playing several hours.

The likelihood of the 'box to RRoD is not based on the model, rather the revision of the unit's motherboard.

    Link

Up to Valhalla, the newer the revision, the longer the board would last before it RRoD'ed.

Can't comment on Valhalla since they're only in the new slims and they haven't been out long enough to come up with an average.

Supposedly better cooling means little to no more RRoD (now Green Light of Death), but the much smaller case can't be good for heat movement. We'll see.

When you don't pack it in some kind of cupboard without air circulation you shouldn't have any problems.
The newer Jasper revision have rarely this problem.

I have no idea what people are doing, that they get it all 1-2 months. Maybe they have it standing in the sun and play 24/7.

My elite from october 09 don't have any problems.

The problems were bigger on older consoles, but they are gone for the most now, till the GPU/CPU are produced in 65nm.
The new XBOX "slim" shouldn't have the problems, because it have better cooling system and uses 45nm.
I don't think that you can get old revisions which were afflicted by RRoD.

i concur. this problem occurred mostly with the initial batch of 360s and usually when u kept the 360 in a well ventilated space with proper air circulation it didn't heat all that much. but with the later editions most problems were rectified. to be safe..as dartkone points out..take a break after say 2 or 3 hours of play.

I have x-box 360 elite, just bought 2 months ago and i don't have that problem till now but while playing for 3 hours my x-box get turned off automatically, how i don't know.

you should be able rondos that. I believe there is a setting (I don't remember exactly where so you'll have to do sole searching, I think it's somewhere on console settings) that makes it turn off automatically after a certain period of time. I believe it is either three or six hours, so I think it's most likely that that is where your problem is. simply turn the setting off.

I've had my Elite for almost a year now, the only problem is the disc drive taking about 20 attempts to read a disc, but no RROD.

The reason for the RROD is simple, it's because the thermal paste Msoft uses is crap lollll.
