Before each of the German team’s international football matches, Paul is presented with two identical containers, each containing a small morsel of food. Both containers are marked with a flag – one with the flag of Germany, and the other with the flag of the opposing team. Whichever box Paul opens to eat the food is interpreted as his prediction of which team will be victorious.
And Paul really knows his stuff.
The octopus began predicting football match results during UEFA Euro 2008, where 5 of his 6 predictions were correct. (He incorrectly predicted Germany to beat Spain in the final match.)
Daniel Fey, Sea Life’s Entertainment Director says, “There was something about the way [Paul] looked at our visitors when they came close to the tank. It was so unusual, so we tried to find out what his special talents were.”
According to Wikipedia, when Argentina found out that Paul had bet against them, predicting their team would lose to Germany , the octopus began receiving death threats! “There are always people who want to eat our octopus but he is not shy and we are here to protect him as well,” says his keeper, Oliver Walenciak. “He will survive.”
And now Germans want to eat him. His selection has been met with groans of discomfort from German football fans. He even predicted their loss against Serbia that they'll lose -.-
Pictures of when he predicted the Spain match:
Other pics of his predictions:
Note: He is said to predict only Germany matches, but recently they tried to do it between Holland and Spain, He chose Spain for the world cup.*Edit: I'll try to get pictures of the Spain-Holland prediction.
Not that I believe in this dude but it's really cool.

I still don't believe in things like that, but he didn't made mistake this year. (at last one he done 1 mistake)
Anyway it is amazing, i believe it is luck.
I also predicted every game right till now. (whole championship)
I didn't knew who make how many goals, but i knew who win.
So you are Mrs.Paul from Germany
Too bad, I predicted your country to be holding the cup.
I have hearing of Octupus Paul everyday on our newspapers, even read that he is recieving death threats from Argentinian and German fans.
And yes, I haven't read your long post.
Anyway when I first heard the quote "The octopus predicts" I thought it was pseudonym for some online dude predicting the results I had no idea it was an actual octopus!
What it's done is very improbable and if he get the runner-up game and final right then I will be astonished.
