What's so special about individuality anyway? Some sense of pride to numb the pain of rejection? Whatever you've got to tell yourself, but you got to wake up one day and realize, you either stop whining and accept you're alone and probably will always be (some people do that and it suits them and more power to you if this is already the case) or change yourself.
If I'm comfortable where I stand, I don't give a **** if it's where someone else stands. If it's that way, at least I'm not alone. Just because you got some sense of "individuality" doesn't mean you're special or better than everyone else.

I said it was necessarily anything speical although from my experiences people generally seem to have more of a distinctive personality than those who follow the masses.
I'm pretty sure a healthy middle-ground between social conformity and individuality can be found pretty easy without any fear of "rejection".

Being open and forward about your views won't make you popular. Rather, instead of masses of swooning girls/boys, it'll net you 2-3 lifelong friends and the man/woman of your dreams.
I had 3 good friends in High School out of all the people who tried to convince me they were my friend. The rest regularly went behind my back.
Honestly, I couldn't care less if I was popular. Popularity breeds arrogance, which breeds contempt, which breeds an air of superiority that just isn't there. When you put on airs, it doesn't matter if you're popular, you just end up looking like a jackass.
A lot of people on CHU have been putting on airs like their views are the most important ever. Everyone who has criticized Nic and Zeth's relationship has come across as arrogant and self-righteous in some form or another, for example.
The formspring trolls are another set of idiots who think they can hold themselves above us decent folk who at least have the nerve to say things to one's face instead of hide behind false anonymity.
If I stand alone, so what, better to be true to myself than a popularity *****. If I stand with others, good for them, they're standing with me and my views in my eyes.
