Well, today in our monthly news letter it said that a nearboy college is going to fund that all students will receive netbooks. I dont know whether it will happen or not but I would like to know what you think about it.

Personally i think it is a brilliant idea as long as they dont block things like facebook, msn and redtube

What the heck to you want a netbook for in college? The keyboards are too small to type papers on without severely harming your wrists.

The university I go to gives everyone laptops. It's those Lenovo T60/T61/T500 ones that you see insurance agents carrying around. They charge all the students $1500 a year for them.

Now I'm in engineering so for me this is a bargain because the half dozen programs I use would bankrupt my parents. The CAD program alone is $20,000 for a license.

BUT, business students, science students, health science students, and all the others don't use any programs except Microsoft Office and for them $1500 a year is robbery.

And no matter what class you're in if I look around during a lecture I see MSN, Facebook, Top Gear, and some other stuff. And if you go to the back 2 rows you see Warcraft and some online FPS I can't remember the name of. Guess how long those people lasted.

The difference is that the only practical use of a netbook is surfing the internet. They're often not powerful enough to run more than browsers and word processors, and their keyboards are too small to be typing for longer than email length.

It seems like a good idea on paper, but it's terrible when executed. How many people actually need netbooks, and how many are just going to use them to get on facebook? Laptops are better suited for taking notes and writing papers anyway, and they aren't deathly expensive either. If someone needs a laptop, they'll buy one. There's no need to give everyone a netbook.

Yeah its a good idea in the fact your getting a free netbook, free stuffs good stuff I say. I still think it shouldn't take away from using a pen & paper though.
