He'd know what "Germany" was if the freaking Aussie or Kiwi or whatever interviewer knew how to pronounce it. That was a case of retarded interviewer meets retarded interviewee.
Doubt it. He clearly says "German?" Then, a few seconds later, "I don't know what that means." Then, the interviewer leans over and shows him the word on his prompt card, says it again, then says, "I don't know what that means, we don't say that in America."
