My sister just defragmented our hard drive but what worries me is that it took her like 12 hours before it was completed. Is that a problem? Btw, my Hard Drive disk size is 500 GB.
Plus, after she defragmented it, my free space went down from 102 GB to 76 GB. Is that also a problem?

it shouldn't have taken 12 hours. 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the drive and amount of fragmentation. check to see if it has bad sectors. run a diagnostic on the HDD using one of various diagnostic tools available online.

Ok thanks. I'm also trying to make a backup of my files, in case that I need to change my HDD.

making a back-up is always beneficial. u might have to change ur HDD..but don't rush into it. most branded pc's give u a diagnostic software with their system and in-case of an assembled pc..well..there r plenty of really good software's available on the net.

Yeah, I've encountered a problem... Everytime I run my PC Hardware Diagnostics in the HDD section, the tests stop at 19% or something.
I'll probably look more into this.

Yeah, I haven't defragmented my HDD since I got my computer. Plus I've also fixed the Diagnostics problem, though it detected bad sectors and I will be fixing it tomorrow.

Whenever my computer feels too screwed up or cluttered I simply reformat, but not everyone has that kind of patience and I somewhat grown out of the habit.
