Finally Nvidia has released its GF470 chipset and manufacturers have the cards out already.

£300 will get you one of these lush cards with 1GB-1.5GB GDDR5. And it blows the 5970 out of the water.

If you have the cash go get one now, if your rich get 2 or 3

EDIT: Oops forgot the link to the video showing the card off.

    *has a crisis*

I knew I'd heard about a new nVidia card somewhere, bu could never find the article again. Well here we go.

BTW, anyone interested in buying two slightly used GTX295s?

Oh yeah before people say, the 5970 is better than a 470/480.. Remember the 470/480 is a single GPU compared to the 5970's dual GPU.

In terms of performance, the 470 even outshines the 5970. 1 core vs 2 cores, and 1 core wins... ergo the 470's are value for money.

I love the fact CUDA is getting so much stronger (Something ATI cards dont have either), and Just Cause 2's water effects are stunning.

Also another feature missing from ATI cards is Physx. And that looked great on the new BF2.

I have my 3 pre-ordered, they dont come out until the 12th But hey, thank god my PSU will handle it :P

Okay, before I needlessly throw away two 295s and more money, how does the GTX480 compare to the GTX295?

from what i know so far..its power hungry and heats quite a bit.

The reports of the temperatures etc are through early review cards, obviously not the final product.

Average the 470 single GPU has a 30% increase of performance over a dual GPU 5970. The 480 around 45%.

The general consensus is that the 470 will need at least 450W-500W. Obviously not as much with 2 cards SLI'd. So for 3 cards running at same time, a PSU of perhaps 1200W may suffice with everything else.

Temps have been reported to go high, but again that is with preview models so not the final one, plus with different manufacturers there will be different cooling systems in place.
