Eh-em...
First, go to your town gate (it's waaay at the top of your town. probably in the middle).
Second, go into it, and talk to the dog on the right.
Third, after he says something, say 'Friend Code?' when the response menu thing pops up.
Fourth, he'll tell you your friend code.
This can also be found in your roster (the menu you get to by pressing the heart button on the inventory thing) after talking to Copper. Just keep hitting buttons on that menu till you figure it out.

OMG! but he always says "can't find accesable point" or something like that!! I get so annoyed.... but i'll try it again rite now.
Are you near a wireless internet modem? You need wireless internet to get your code AND use Wi-Fi.
