So lately I've been playing the old school pokemon games and became interested in getting platinum. But I didn't realize how many Nintendo DS's are out there.
We have the Nintendo DS Lite, which is older of the 3, but it's the cheapest running at about 130$. It has a port for GBA games, but this isn't necessarily important because I have a Gameboy Advance.
Then theres the Nintendo DSi, which came out after the Lite. It doesn't have a GBA port, but it does internal wifi. It's also a little big slimmer than the lite, but run abouts 30$ more.
The latest version of Nintendo DS, is the DSi XL. The XL comes out the 28th of this month, and it runs close to 200$. But the battery life is the longest of the 3. It has better colors IMO, and the screens are bigger than the other 2. My only problem is that it's 200$ where I could buy a DS Lite and save myself close to 70$.
If there is anybody who has had a Lite and a DSi, please post your opinion on which one you think is better.
I don't have a DS so I don't have an informed opinion; but I think I would take the second option. $30 isn't a whole lot more and the built-in wifi connectivity would probably be cool to have.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'
I had an original launch-day DS, but that broke a couple years back. Now I have a lite, which is perfect for me because I play a ton of GBA and DS games.
I don't see the appeal of the DSi at all, the downloads aren't that great (imo) and the addition of internal wifi and a camera doesn't make up for the loss of the GBA slot. The XL seems like a joke to me, the thing almost defeats the purpose of handheld gaming with how huge it is.
So I'd recommend the lite, it costs the least and you get the most bang out of it because of the ability to play GBA games. Plus you can still play games wirelessly online on the Lite, you just can't surf the web (without an add-on) or download games.
I'd say the DSi. It controls better than the Lite, and the extra $30 really isn't too much. I prefer the original DS, though. If you can find one, I think it would be the best option.
The XL intrigues me because it has bigger screens, making it easier on the eyes to read text. Not to mention it has the most recent updated programs on it.
