Alcohol and Cigs are the two legal drugs in the US. Interesting to see so much defense for beer, but strong hatred for Cigs.

Cigarettes in any amount affect any person in the area. Leaving people feeling forced into breathing the second hand smoke. Beer only has the chance to affect surrounding people if it's taken in excess, and even then it's only from the actual person being annoying about it.

Oh I can tell you stories about my dad and alcohol from my childhood that would make you reconsider that point immediately without second thought. Though the predictable counter-argument would be lack of self-discipline.
