I got the blue screen of death after I installed Metro 2033. Steam auto-updated the game. I got an error first no executable...then I re-Installed, then my computer goes to BLUE screen whenever I re-start my computer now, cannot get to windows.

So frustrated, I run Crossfire 4850, i7, 12GB DDR3. How can I regain control of computer?? I was able to do safe mode but cannot delete Metro from steam.

Can anyone help me?? I don't know what to do next....

    Driver problem IMO.

During the blue screen, do you see any filename mentioned? Any .sys or .dll file?

This will help you locate which drivers have got corrupt. You can fix this issue by a simple update/re-install. But always roll-back the previous drivers when you attempt an install.

Also have you installed multiple drivers, I mean different drivers for the same piece of hardware like Graphic Card? This should never be done. In this case, roll-back the drivers, and re-install the correct drivers (Latest version, should support your hardware model).

Also outdated drivers can also be an issue. Update them.

After much soul searching, I was finally able to start in safe mode and did System Restore before Metro Install. It saved me, computer started up fine, I deleted local steam Content Metro.

I have ATI, I don't know what happened at install. I think my drivers for ATI got deleted? Did nvidia physx drivers mess it up? I don't know. I am currently downloading from steam the entire game.

I hope it does not happen again. If it does do I just go back to system restore points in safe mode??

Dont't know what to do next

Thanks for your advice and help

As for Blue screen, no error message at all, the computer simply went BLUE death, and started/re-booted in Blue death after initial logo etc....Is it F8 to go to Safe mode Options??

Well I bet it must be having to do something with those drivers.

Have you tried running tests from the DirectX Diagnostic Tool?

I updated windows, re-installed, went to steam directory and re-installed thru Metro folder like it says on steam forums.

Got the Blue screen of Death, now once again windows does not start.

Going back to safe mode to System restore, and shredding the game!!

I think its ATI video card and drivers?
    Thanks anyways guys

Well my computer is finally back, after system restore. Not sure what to do with Metro 2033 now.

this is from a user in steam forums I tried, did not work:

    -------------------------------------
"After installing the game, check its folder: \steamapps\common\metro 2033\install\
In there, you'll find some files, and two sub-folders. Run the PhysX-setup, then the extractor located in the same folder, then go into that "DirectX" folder and run "DXSETUP.exe"."-Steam Forum User

I think the game is meant for Nvidia users and not ATI
