    After having so many technical problems limiting my enjoyment of the first game eg. no in-game audio under Vista, level loading crashes etc. I was really hoping 2K games got their act together with the second game, evidentally that is not the case. First they admit DX10 support is broke -------what's up with that, and the graphics look worse thanks to the use of lower res texture maps. The PC version is evidentally a port of the inferior console versions. The only way I can play this game without crashing is forgo using "Games for Windows LIVE" but then that means I can't save the game either. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) and running the game in DX9 or XP mode doesn't help either. As for the cheats that work great while the game is running.

    The game does suffer from a few crashes but I do like to Alt+Tab since I'm writing a review and the game doesn't snap back at times - I can't blame the game for that.

    Because the game will set your binds to Default after a crash, you should set your User.cfg in USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock2 to read-only to avoid retyping them.

    If you think the graphics look worse (I have to agree a bit as they don't look as sharp but hope someone will figure out a way to improve the textures than my cheap way) look at your Bioshock2SP.cfg and check they correspond to my own high-ish settings which attain 70fps on two Ati 4870's (I've copied only the relevant commands):

    [BioDrv.BioRenderDevice]
    HighDetailActors=True
    SuperHighDetailActors=True
    UsePrecaching=True
    UseTrilinear=True
    ReduceMouseLag=False
    DoubleBufferMouseLag=False
    DesiredRefreshRate=60
    UseVSync=False
    LevelOfAnisotropy=8
    UseHighDetailShadowMaps=True

    [D3DDrv10.D3DRenderDevice10]
    HighDetailActors=True
    SuperHighDetailActors=True
    UsePrecaching=True
    UseTrilinear=True
    ReduceMouseLag=False
    DoubleBufferMouseLag=False
    DesiredRefreshRate=60
    UseVSync=False
    LevelOfAnisotropy=8

    [Havok]
    HavokNumThreads=4 ;set this to 4 if you have dualcore otherwise its 2 for singlecore
    Only using CH trainers to add fun to games already completed or for testing mods, etc.

    yea...though for me...the crashing happened when I saved and quit to windows (it caused the display driver to crash as windows will tell me that the display driver "stopped responding" and was restarted).

    and I do have to agree, it doesn't look as graphically amazing as bioshock 1 did back in the day though I think the gameplay is easier (and so far, very long).
    (and I love some of the new weapons like the mini turrets).

    To add to the graphics issue, the first cutscene seems to be pre-rendered and it looks like sht

    Apparently 2Ks boards are flooded with irrate people having crashing and other issues with the game. Hopefully a full patch addressing these issues is coming soon and not just a lame GFWL update that didn't do squat for my problems with the game.

    I had the same problem with the first Bioshock and now it's happening with this one too... Very frustrating indeed. It just seems weird that these software houses release their games apparently without testing them properly, leaving that job to us, who pay them.

    The easiest way to tell (MoFoQ) if its a cut-scene is when the frame-rate goes from around 70+ to a constant 60fps using Fraps as this would be the rendered framerate - otherwise this value wouldn't change.

    If they developed Bioshock 2 as well for PC as they did with the first, then we'd all be applauding 2K Games. I've played through the game already and didn't suffer any crashes besides using Alt+Tab on a few occasions. Using your most recent save should help, best bet is to make 5 manual saves throughout in rotation, and use the quicksave whenever you need to.

    I do understand the resentment from a lot of gamers who's issues haven't been dealt with promptly by 2K, despite the quick release of the first patch - this seems to be the order of the day for alleged quick-released buggy PC games in general.

    As a reminder, the patch fixed the following SEVEN crash issues:
    - Fixed accepting a game invite on the Multiplayer Menu via Friend Invite causing a crash.
    - Fixed a black screen that would occur minimizing and restoring the game in Windows 7 (crash issue).
    - Fixed a potential save file issue (crash issue).
    - Fixed a crash while playing Dionysus Park on a 32-bit machine.
    - Fixed a crash that would occur sometimes loading a previous manual save made before any present QuickSave.
    - Fixed a crash while signing in to GFWL when running compatibility mode for XP SP2 while running Vista.
    - Fixed a rare crash that could occur any time before a specific Big Sister sequence.
    Only using CH trainers to add fun to games already completed or for testing mods, etc.
