I don't quite get it. I mean this game seems very slow to develop and the story mission seem few and far between. The majority of your time seems to be taken up with recruiting people and THEN doing loyalty mission to make them well loyal!!!!

And and and you are only able to have conversations with your squad mates infrequently.

i can only think that this is a build up for ME3.
personally, i think it'll be pretty stupid to make shepard die again and have to rebuild his team a 3rd time in ME3

rather, ME3 should start right in the thick of it with certain crew member already there and u can choose to add some more.

i can imagine the missions in ME3 will involve gathering a huge @$$ interracial army of geth, krogen, quarian, etc....

and what u did in ME2 will impact on how those recruitment go
so as if u convinced the quarian admirals to go to war with geth or not......just my 2 cent =P

Exactly, I also see the game as an intermediary to ME3. I love it however, the missions are well-designed and have some interesting twists.

Not only will your decisions from ME2 matter, but also certain ones made in ME1. For instance, if you romanced Ashley/Liara or Kaidan/Liara in the first game and cheated on them with Miranda/Jack/Tali(/Kelly) or Jacob/Garrus/Thane(/Kelly) in the second, it will have consequences for the third.

I am in eager anticipation, but until then I've got to play both games a couple more times to set the storylines straight :P

Someone on the BioWare forums put it perfectly... ME2 is the Two Towers of the ME universe. It's pulling together the threads of the first game and creating new ones in anticipation of the final show down in The Return of the King, or in this case, ME3.

Skyheart I don't agree with your analogy I didn't like the 2nd part to much but i though the first one was extremely boring compared to the book.

i agree. ME2 does seem like an intermediary to ME3. but its well designed and definitely gets u very involved. it just blew me away. it even made me play ME1..again! i can hardly wait for Jan 2011

It's not my analogy, and I don't actually agree with it myself - not in a Lord of the Rings sense - but it's a good way of explaining it, mainly in that it's the middle part of a trilogy.

Book X #2 of #3 or Movie Y #2 of #3 tend to take the story of #1 and extend it to encompass it's own story, but for the most part it sets up a lot of locations, characters, backstories, actions, groups and factions, etc, in anticipation of the finale.

ME2 sets up the story of what happened to the Protheans and what the reapers may be planning for humans when they arrive. It also sets up what I believe to be the team which will follow you into the hell of the final fight against the reapers (assuming they lived). There's other things, but I could go on all bloody day. 😵
