The Paragon and Renegade Interrupt symbols flash briefly at key moments for you to make a choice and "interrupt" when you see the symbol.

The mouse doesn't seem to work it (at least trying to move to it and click -- not enough time), and I cannot figure out what to do to activate a choice.

The Prima guide says press the "associated button". I cannot find a button on the control optinons panel, nor have I been able to find anything else.

Since this is a major part of the gameplay, I am very frustrated, and some help would be appreciated.

On the PC, the left mouse button should work for Renegade interrupts, the right mouse button for Paragon interrupts. You don't have to click the flashing icon, just click the correct button in time. You're given a few seconds to do it, so it should be easy enough.
