I was doing Jacobs mission to gain his loyalty. The one where you have to find out what became of his father. The 'Hunters' caught me by surprise luckily I didn't die =P

changing armor to to blood dragon armor made the unl health work for shepard again. i think it stopped working when i changed the default armor pieces for the upgraded ones.
I use the recon hood all of the time and I have no problems with the unl health working. I think I had one teammate go down once but I had run really far ahead and there were a bunch of enemies between my team and me.

I may have figured it out. On the collector mission you are forced to wear the the helmet. I can't test it yet but try removing the helmet and see if it works. I have unlimited health as Shepard on the Normandy but not when I exit it with the helmet
I never changed shepards helmet at all. My health stopped working because I changed the 'upper torso' armour part...changing that back to default got the health working again. So I don't think it only affects helmets but any armour part changed.

By never changed you mean never took it off or never put it on? I put on the life support pants and that didn't effect it.
