I had a bizarre problem: with the trainer running the game would crash at each and every cutscene.

I'm running the intl retail version of the game (idem for trainer) on vista 64 home premium with radeon hd 4870. Reinstalled the game twice to no avail. The solution that finally worked was to run the trainer in xp sp2 compat mode (as admin, natch).

I followed your advice with trainer in xp sp2 compat mode and crashed anyway, as soon as I fire weapon on the first training level game shuts down. I turned off AVNortons still no go. I DL savegame files to bypass the training level and game still crashes with the saved levels. Running with Win7-64bit XFX 5870 @crossfire 12Meg of ram I7 975
What next?

this might seem silly, but have you tried both available trainers? i was sure i had the original english version of the game and the euro trainer ended up working for me (with that whole xpsp2 compat + runas admin thing).

other than that i'm out of ideas for now...

I always take advice no matter how silly it may seem so I tried the EURO version like you mentioned and the trainer worked very well. Got game at BestBuy, must have crossed the Atlantic but working fine Thank you!
