Doesn't this game have an ingame AA-option? The game also looks too dark, especially in the cut scenes. I'm using a radeon 3750.

Did you try boosting the brightness of your monitor?

you're funny , no it seems to be more of a shading issue. faces are lighted just from one side for example. sometimes, background is not visible at all in cutscenes.

For AA rename the executable in the "Binaries" folder from MassEffect2.exe to UT3.exe.

Then go to the CCC (Catalyst Control Panel) > Advanced > 3D > AA > Use Application Settings

Since it is based on the Unreal 3 Engine you can do this with ANY game based on it, including ME1 & ME2.

doesn't seem to work. how does renaming enable AA? is the AA in ut3 on by default? I can enable it in the ccc but it costs too much framerate. what about catalyst a.i., on or off?

Catalyst AI to Advanced (All Tab) and under the AA tab you can select the AA you want. The AA performance hit will be larger on HD3000 & HD2000 cards than on the HD4000 & HD5000 series.

It's not massively noticeable though, even at 8xAA, The Narrow Tent option does seem to look slightly better though. Catalyst 10.2 is most likely to have Mass Effect 2 profiles included but in 10.1 you will be able to modify profiles for the first time. If you look on the Rage3D forums you will find links to the 10.1 beta but it may be buggy so use at your own risk.

Unreal Engine 3 (UE3) uses a Deferred Rendering method that is incompatable with most AA which is why you have to force it. The next couple of Catalyst driver releases may make it much easier to get AA in UE3 games like ME2.

I don't get my ME2 until today/tomorrow (it's on the way already) but it works in ME1 with an old 4670 & a new 5850. Also, apologies for the long winded reply.

Thanks for the detailed info. I remember similar problems with Arkham Asylum. I've tried 8xAA, but the little optical benefit isn't worth the impact on framerate. Haven't played ME1 for a while, but I don't remember having noticed the same teared edges as in ME2.I generally think that the graphics are worse in ME2; focus, lights, too much gloom,... damn lazy console porting I guess.

Just forgot, sb wrote renaiming into bioshock.exe gives much better results, gonna try that now,
    cheers

You can force AA in catalyst control center, parts of the game are supposed to look dark, but the majority of it is well lit enough. Really depends on your monitor setup though, looks normal on LCDs which most of the world has for a monitor by now anyway. I'm not sure how well your 3870 will run this game with AA and other settings on though, I put all settings on and am running it at 1920x1080 with the fastest version of the 4890 and a couple minutes into this game and you can hear the GPU fan kick into overdrive, but the game plays smoothly for hours. It is no Crysis but it will probably really push your 3870.

Oh...and if you have a problem with the game being too quiet, I recommend turning your volume up
