Sound (especially voices) stutter terribly in the cut scenes and I sometimes have the feeling the are cancelled and stop before finished. Did sb experience similar problems?

I had crashes as well but after some testing it seems to be related to the VSync option, left it enabled (Not 30FPS limited but that might work as well.) and it seems to work now. (The rock falling down cutscene at the second level and two levels afterwards with a piece of a ship falling down, unsure why they crashed with VSync disabled.)
yep, v-sync is the first thing to disable anyway, it messes up my framerate in all games and doesn't look better at all.
I ran the intro again, low resolution, low quality,... As soon as the characters start talking, the framerate drops again and sound stutters.
can directx hardware accel. be the problem?
unless u have a really good sound card like a Creative X-Fi or better i'd suggest u select 'software' instead of 'hardware'..if there is such an option in the sound settings of the game. if there is such an option u could try that..see if it helps.

If your on XP then decrease the hardware acceleration tab in DirectX config to basic. If you have an onboard soundcard or a cheap PCI/PCI-e card then you will have to use basic since there is no hardware acceleration support on those cards.
On Vista and 7 its done automatically, bar exception that a game has the option to choose between hardware and software.
Also make sure you defrag your hard disk. And also if possible and you have more than 1 physical Hard Drive, put your Page File on the quickest drive and the game on the other drive, thusly cuts down access times on the HD's since both data and PF access are not on the same drive.
