You all seem to forget that tonight is a Blue Moon. New Years happens every year. A blue moon doesn't.

    HAPPY BLUE MOON!

That is indeed cool man, I would never have come to know about it, Thanks!

    Happy blue moon!

So since the extra full moon falls on the very night when 2009 becomes 2010, to which year does it belong?

(A blue moon is a 13th full moon in a year and happens every two to three years due to differences between the calendar and the lunar cycle...but I don't think it's happened on New Years in...well...ever)

It creates an interesting situation because there is/was also a partial lunar eclipse tonight somewhere in the world.

The moon was out long before midnight. As far as I'm concerned, it began on the 31st. On the calendar, it says Full Moon on the 31st. Therefore, it is a blue moon.

Technically a Blue Moon is the second Blue Moon of the month, not of the year.

It just so happens to also be the 13th one this year.

A blue moon is the second full moon in a month's time. IMO, within the set months.
