The Ottoman Sultan called in his nobles. He laid out a giant circular rug on the ground and placed an apple at the center.
He asked his nobles if it was possible to pick up the apple without stepping on the rug.
His nobles conferred amongst themselves and decided that no, you could not pick up the apple without stepping on the rug.
The Sultan laughed.
He picked up the edge of the rug and began rolling it up. As he reached the apple, he picked it up and unrolled the rug.
Hence, the final plan for taking Constantinople was born.

If one massive, supreme, effort could capture the walls in one focused place, the Ottoman armies were numerous enough to overpower the defenders and roll up the wall and into the city.
Previously, the Ottomans had attempted highly orchestrated, coordinated assaults on multiple fronts--like the nobles discussing how to get the apple. This split their own efforts and allowed the superior armor and personal weaponry of the defenders to win in the breaches.

The Ottomans took it with the mega-assault and still have it today...
