um....you can turn off updates on a game specific basis....you can also use offline mode....
It's not like the end of the world since you can do much of what the trainer does via the in-game console commands. Not as simple, but still functional.
I just hate having to pause every five seconds to spam health poultices.

Nope. I had auto-updates disabled for Dragon Age (yes, I'm 100% sure it was set to disabled) and today when I started the game up, Steam *immediately* began downloading the update. And once the update starts, you can't cancel it, and you can't play the game until it finishes.
I've gotten burned this way by Steam before. I don't know whether it sometimes just ignores the setting, or it it resets it on its own (my suspicion), but in any case, it happens way too often.
Perhaps offline mode would have worked, but that' a pain, and I shouldn't have had to do that.
Fortunately, though, the guys here at CH rock - they're usually really quick to support new patches on games. I'm angry about the auto-patch mostly because the new patch breaks some mods I was using and makes me worry the other mods I have might not be fully compatible and will corrupt something.
