It is the same as using potions.

In the inventory screen goto the right character.

Right click (or however you do to open the item wheel) and select the Gift Icon.

You can also just drag the gift and drop it on their paper doll in the inventory screen.

I gave Sten all the bones I found for gifts. He didn't reject any of them.

Game Banshee has a list pretty much done on what gifts you can give each charecter. Left side, Companions

This, may help a bit..would have just copied and pasted over all but woulda been a bit of work organizing, so i just took screenshots, cut em, and uploaded sections..for me it was easier this way..anyways taken from a strategy guide..goodluck finding em.
