If you can't go through life on a single card only, you're doing it wrong.

I have a check card linked to my checking account, and a credit card for emergencies.

Hmm i only have a check card thats linked to my checking account. But I'm thinkin I should get a credit card for emergencies. Like when I went to vegas, the only way to get internet was with a credit card

Card readers can't tell the difference between a check card and a credit card...and if it asks if it's credit or debit, hit credit and you won't get any fees. They're interchangeable as far as the infrastructure is concerned.

Edit- ATM cards, on the other hand, have more numbers and carry different information.

I have two ATM cards, one of which is an empty account until money starts going in there. The other is a savings account I've had since I was 14.

Credit cards will only ever serve one purpose with me: Buying stuff online. Wait, with Paypal I can do that safely! Never mind then
