I never viewed losing ones virginity as a right of passage into manhood. Just look at all the deadbeat dads and boyfriends who don't care. They are not "men" in my eyes.

I think it's more a symbolic to most men. Feeding the male ego. I guess they just wanna say "I had intimate intercourse with a chick and I'm proud of it!". And let's be frank, they wouldn't really care if you think of them as "men" or not.
