Just to comment on the stuff written in this thread:
Memory Editors: Art Money editing worked better for me than CoSMOS. Like previous posters have said, use a custom search (set to 8-Bit Float). Usually it takes me 3 passes: first initial search of a value, 2nd pass to filter, and a 3rd pass to nail down the exact address. In a couple of cases, two addresses came up and had to be locked (I noticed this with attributes, but not skills/abilities).
If the value I was searching for is small (like a 1 or a 2), it took 4-5 passes to finally get one address. The last few filters were usually less than a second though. My dual-wielding warrior can take down 4 enemies with one special move now. Thank you 200 Strength/Dexterity!
Console: I'm on Steam, so adding the -enabledeveloperconsole or whatever it was had to be done through the Steam client. Right click on the game and look in the options -- there is something there about "launch options" or what have you. Just put the -enabledeveloperconsole in there and when you launch through Steam, we're good to go.
I bound the console to the letter "O." When you hit the console key, as has been mentioned a few times already, YOU DO NOT SEE THE CONSOLE COME UP. Hit the backspace a few times to make sure you didn't get any junk in the console line which you can't see, and then begin typing "runscript". As soon as you hit "r", you will see numbers and alphabets at the top. Just ignore it and keep going. As soon as you enter your command, hit enter. The text remains at the top but slowly fades away after you start moving again.
Tried and worked: zz_money addxp zz_addaproval zz_givearmor pc_immortal
Haven't bothered with the adding talents/attributes/skills yet.
Does anyone know which game files hold console commands? I've unpacked a pile of the ERF files and can't find any that have the mentioned console commands. All I've found are spawns and graphics commands.

How to enable console: Make shortcut to daorigins.exe, found in bin_ship, on your desktop. At the end of the target line add -enabledeveloperconsole. Dont forget the space. The target line end should look like this: daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole
To open the console, start the game from the shortcut and press the Tilde button ~` Note: The console is invisible.

Nice find... more from the Gamespot forums:
"most stuff should be in "designerscripts.rim" file. there is also a createitem script and the syntax should be from 'designeritems.erf'"
