its a normal one blue green purple and orange items suck really badly for some reason
The orange items actually provide some unique bonuses that can alter your entire playstyle, depending on what you get. I got a level 50 orange revolver that regenerated ammo on its own, and used a different class mod since I didn't have to worry about ammo.
On topic: The soldier or the berserker are the best in my opinion. I used this build: Link and went my whole second playthrough without even getting downed. The turret is pretty much invaluable - if you need to lay down the hammer, or if you need cover. The berserker is just overpowered to an absurd level. High damage resistance, high damage output coupled with health regeneration skills mean you can pop his special and leave nothing standing when it runs out.
She uses any weapon type you want to give her, as long as it does elemental damage, and the skill will raise at preferred weapon rate.
Her class mods along with utilizing certain elemental types makes her do some horrific damage. Using a Tempest Class mod (+% Electric Damage, +Skills, etc) and a lightning revolver, and with pistol proficiency at about 20. At the end of the game I could shoot down most of the human enemies in 1 headshot. Spoiler:
The Eridian enemies took 4-5 shots since critting on them can be a bit tough.
She can turn invisible and move at super speed and if she critical melees an enemy while phasewalking, no more enemy. And his buddies nearby will be hurting too.
Currently on my second playthrough and I have a Revolver in slot 1, a Shotgun in slot 2, an SMG in slot 3, and an Eridian 1010 Lightning in slot 4. Using a tempest class mod, and I'm taking down BadMutha (Badass+) enemies in 3-4 shots from revolver, about 2 shots from Eridian gun... it's just rediculous 'cause these are mostly same-level enemies for me now on 2nd.
Mordecai and his hunter abilities though are pretty awesome too, Trespass lvl 5 makes you completely ignore enemy shields with every shot. Beautiful.

The items are totally random, so don't linger too long on that awesome orange gun that has 200 damage and a weird wavy shoot mode. As the devs said, the engine spews out all sorts of stuff, like a gun that just locks on to something, waits, and in 3 seconds the target blows up...
Anyway, snipers with 400 damage are nice, a blue revolver with 499 damage and a 3.x scope is nicer... I got it at level 21 (and it required 25 to use), so yeah, luck is all that counts.
Played Siren and Hunter so far. Enjoy the both a lot. Phasewalk is awesome. But I do much prefer the hunter. Great for team support. I luckily found a L28 revolver with a x2.8 zoom, 6 shots and 380 damage. As for the sniper; I got a level 25 with 402 damage and 91acc. My sniper's a 32 and I still use it. Really get a nice kick outta those two weapons. Starting to use others just for fun. Actually got my SMG skill up due to a gun that explodes. lol Some named mobs are pretty nice for dropping stuff, even if only for cash if you're in the area you need to be for that particular.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grammar and punctuation is the difference between; "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse." ...and... i helped my uncle jack off a horse.
I was playing my hunter in a group with some friends. My friend opened a random chest and found an eridian sniper. (green quality) called the 1010010 Cannon or something like that. It does 597 damage a shot with splash damage not to mention the best part, it has infinite ammo although it does take a little bit of time to recharge if you fire in rapid sucession.
