What do you guys think, my mother is thinking of purchaseing a handgun for home protection. Do you guys think owning any form of weapon is right?
Well as far as im concerend, people can own hatchets and knives for cutting anything between onoins and your mother! But why guns? Personaly i beleave you should own any form of average semi auto- burst fire weaponary, but i think my countrys restrictions make sence, when you hunt you dont need bullets that exsplode inside living objects.

For home protection, you need to push back your perimeter about 100 meters--create a clear kill zone--mine it, built anti-tank emplacements (AT ditches, dragons teeth), create an outer line of entrenchments connected to an inner one with slit trenches. Reinforced concrete bombproofs. Camouflaged bunkers, the approaches lined with punjis. Foo gas traps.
And then a double-fenced in area filled with ravenous pit bulls with AIDS.

Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with buying a firearm for protection. It's stupid not to actually, since most criminals will be packing heat anyway. Best not to handicap yourself in the face of danger you know?

I am not in favor of everyone running out and buying a gun merely because they want to "defend their homes". Firearms ownership is serious business and if you are going to purchase one, you should become well acquainted with it. Train to use it, and when to use it.
I own a large number of firearms, but none of them were bought lightly. I may have a .45 in my nightstand, but I keep its ammo locked in a safe on the farm two miles away. Firearms are not toys; they are tools.
