...where you have to use the welding tool to get inside the U-boat to retrieve some documents. I can't get the welding tool to work, I've tried everything including blasting the U-boat with PaKs to crack it open, but so far I'm still stuck. Any ideas?

The "welding tool"/cutter is at the top corner of the map from where your troops enter the field, a German is using it (unless you've killed him already) so you get to see lots of pretty sparks flying, once you have removed him get one of your squad to occupy the welder, and bring it to the u-boat, there is a hatch near the rear ramps onto the sub, bring the welder here and an "unlock"/"torch" icon will appear when you bring the cursor over the hatch. Click, and the cutter will open the hatch, then enjoy the fun
