I disagre.I think the singlep player campaign is quite good and i loved every bit of it.Because i hadnt played the original game i didnt have any problem. Also Space Marine Chapters consist of 1000 men not 1000000 soldiers and where you are there is only one company the IV which apparantly is responsible for the recruits and their training.
So the tactical part of the combat is very cool.Much better than classic RTS where what you do is build a giant army and attack no tactics whatsoever. If you fail repeat.I then played Dawn of War and its expansion and thats what i did every single mission.Boring
From the Warhammer Wiki:
(While most Legions had around 10,000 members, the Ultramarines sat in excess of 25,000)
Now, while the Blood Ravens were created whole cloth for the purposes of the game, one can safely assume they would be virtually the same. Chapters tended towards 1,000 members of the whole legion, so we can safely assume that any battles to protect one of their primary worlds would involve at 'least' 1000 space marines, not including support vehicles.
To that end, I found Dawn of War 2 very very disappointing. Now, had it been billed as a completely new game (i.e. not called Dawn of War 2, but instead titled something different like: Warhammer 40k: Small Scale Squad Combat), I'm sure I would be less critical of it.
However, that being said, being true to Warhammer 40k would involve one of 3 options:
1) Squad tactical gameplay (i.e. Space Crusade or Space Hulk)
2) Grand Strategy (i.e. Final Liberation)
3) Bastardization of Strategy (i.e. Dawn of War (the first one)) - While not ideal, it was certainly better than "Dawn of War 2".
If you really want to play a game wherein there are no reinforcements, I would recommend Myth/Myth II by Bungie. Or if you insist on it being in a futuristic setting (or Warhammer 40k specifically), Final Liberation. The only flaw in that game was the total lack of expansion (Just Orks and Space Marines/Planetary Guard; no Chaos, Tyrranid, Tau, Necrons or Eldar)

Very good point Bro & I am very very agree with U !
I think Relic should make THIS GAME as Dawn of War THE FIRST then DoW 1 as Dawn of War 2 !
DoW 2 only FUN if u play it in online MP GAMING but for offline? after 10 - 15th games, u will bore to death since u always played with just 4 races (after u had accustomed to play with 9 races in DoW 1) in VERY few maps too
No Librarian (u will get it in Chaos Rising now) no Apothecary no Squiggoth no Fire Dragon
Also the CAMPAIGN was boring too since despite u got 3 planet but the map that available are totally limited & the gameplay are even almost practically the same in terms of...especially u can spam your XP by doing so many defense mission again & again
U now get some intense feeling when they give u LIMITED TIME to do some mission but in the end, u will start to do the campaign mission then wasting your times doing defense mission
And they should telling the background story in game NOT IN LOADING SCREEN too !
The gameplay in DoW 1 is practically same too but they compensated it with so many races with unique map for their stronghold + IMPORTANT achievement to get wargear despite its very few in numbers + opening & ending cutscene for each stronghold battle... its give u far more replay value too
So DoW 1 was fun either in single or MP but DoW 2 is boring in SP but fun in MP especially if u are a SM zealot or Ork boys or Nids or Eldar
I must admit that battles in DoW 2 are more terrific more thrilling more awesome but that's it
Its looks good its sounds good its feels good
I thought I wanted this game, but now i don't. The first game has 8 faction this game goes back to 4 though tyranid is new. No base building aspect and the shooting for thirty second to minute to kill is boring.
Starcraft 2 and diablo 2 is what i am waiting for now.
The first Dawn of War didnt start off with 8 factions... most of the factions were introduced Via expansions... your argument is invalid.. GOOD DAY SIR!
So the OP thinks the games sucks? well what are you trying to accomplish by coming here and telling us so? Trying to push your twisted console fanboy mentality onto us? if you dont like the game simply dont play it.
There are several games i have purchased within the past 2 years that i didnt like but i dont go onto there forums and post a poorly structure argument there, and when i have i certainly dont cry about the combat lasting too long.
Are you really so thick to complain about the combat taking too long? your either not playing the game right/cant play the game right, unaware that this RTS title features a cover mechanic that has only really been in one other RTS or your just completely incompetent in PC games/RTS'.
Either way dont come to a game specific forum and expect to have a valid argument with such nonsense, grow up sir.
