At first i didnt know what lines did what, you have to experiment. Some of it is pretty obvious though. Tryusing a program called notepad++ to edit the file, it keeps the xml structure whilst allowing easy editing
if anyone wants to change the succes percentages of the diplomacy window, open config/ai/aiprofiles.xml and find: < SuccessPercentage >xx< /SuccesPercentage > (without the spaces) and change the value to 100 keep doing this to all the succes percentage values and everything will have a 100% succes percentage.
If you think it takes to long for it to be back to 100% after using for instance the flattery, then change the cooldown timer than is beneath every SuccesPercentage.
You can also edit much more in that file, like how the ai reacts to certain thing and how much they react. For instance, when you flatter Kardinal Lucius, you get about 2+ reputation, but you could change that to be higher. And like that for every action that triggers a change in reputation. I don't know the exact locations of these though since there are loads of these. Just find them, it's not that hard really.
can someone post a collection of the important xml files needed for modding, ive got the assets file but not the others. Im still unsure about using 1404ex since norton says it contains a heuristic virus, its probably a false positive, but the last time i used an exe that had that warning, my computer had a seizure and died
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Ubisoft\Anno1404\data\config\game
i found my assets.xml file in here but there are alot of repetitions of "max peasants" so which one do i change?

I don't think that is the right file.
you should have data\config\game\assets.xml in your installation folder. My path is like this: E:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Related Designs\Anno 1404\data\config\game\assets.xml
and to edit how many people live in one house you have to look for < MaxResidentCount >
