This is more Sims 2 than Sims 3 but still... if anyone can find a way to do this on Sims 3, it's appreciated.
I've used cheats for everything in the Sims games, but what I liked to do on Sims 2 was to create Teen Sims, make a generic parent and use the Testing Cheats to make the parent "die by flies", so that the Teen is living on his/her own.

Ive watched a few youtube vids... and every that has doed, comes back to life, whether he wanted to or not... downing, fire or starvation... they still dont completely die, so idk about you question lol
Well if you use testingCheatsEnabled true you can always age the parent to death

This one would work. There is no other way currently. If you take the gravestone/urn to the graveyard you will not have to bother with the ghosts at all.
