If I download the trainer manager and register it to have access to one specific trainer, will I be able to apply forthcoming patches to the trainer?

I don't think so each trainer even if it's a patched one for the game is considered to be a different one. So you only get one for one patch.

No, trainer updates are not included in the single-trainer purchase.
