epona is very necessary if u wish to get the real (unbreakable) biggoron sword, epona is the only way u r gonna make it through the timed segments(if the bunny hood from majora's mask was in the game, it would be a whole nother story

I have currently picked that game back up. I beat it the first time and had no problems with getting epona. Now I can't get the song or get the horse. I have all ready beat the forest temple, lets see...got the fire medallion, and now working on the water medallion and it still won't let me have her. He just keeps asking for 10 more rupees to ride again....he won't ask me to race. Any ideas anyone...sorry that I couldn't be a help...

Well you have to go back as a kid and talk to that girl then get out you Ocarina and shell ask you to play the song.then once you have it,go to her in the future and race and get the song.
