ok im starting Firered and i want a charmander but the two first gyms have no problems with fire type pokemon. so what so i do? and where do you get the fissing rods?

Just raise Charmander to level 13 so it will learn Metal Claw and can knock out Brock's Rock Pokemon. You can find a Pikachu in Viridian Forest to knock out Misty's Water Pokemon.
