sorry to add on the burden, but i have always been looking for an option to increase the rank, or veterancy, of the unit.

I think adding years will be hard, but maby stop the date from advancing would work?
A motivated soldier, will cover the grenade with his or her body. There by saving the life of his or her fellow soldiers.
A unmotivated solder, will cover the grenade with one of his or her fellow soldier. Thereby saving his or her own life.
So at all times keep your soldiers motivated.

Hi there !
Rank and experience would be GREAT ! But also the possiblity to recruit as many elite troops we want/need (like - French units - Pe****-Vieux, Vieux, Garde républicaine etc...)

I would much rather like to see some "upgrades" for units&ships, like making them invincible and the like.
I am wondering if it's possible to achieve via modding (setting advantages only for the human player), but that's rather problematic now, as this game is very modding unfriendly.
