I'm a bit disappointed with WH2

I just purchased WarHammer2 this morning and I can't say I'm all that impressed with it. To begin with I had to install the game using Steam or use Steam to install it, whichever. Since I never play online, I have no real need for Steam.

Number2 Even though I have a Dell XPS410 with a 7300LE 512MB video card, I have to use low for most of the settings, because it tells me running in anything else requires a faster video card. Dell is not a game machine, as we already know but I have been able to run all of my other games in the highest resolution, high quality sets available. What kind of computer did they write this one for a Cray or mainframe?

Next, I wonder if there will ever be a way of modding the game using an editor such as Corsix Mod Studios. I like using Cheat Happens Editors but, I also like to mod on my own. This way I get extra hitpoints, etc., better health and more players. Virtually the same things the trainers provide, except these are imbedded in the game itself through attributes, and I don't need to run an editor.

To sum it up, I can truthfully say at this time, that, I liked the old Warhammer games a lot better. Because I can use higher settings, the graphics are better on say Soul Storm or Dark Crusade, and I could mod these games. I also still think I liked the forting up and building modes better on the older games. It just doesn't seem natural not to have a base, along with all the other things. I also miss the Imperial Guard, which I have used exclusively since Winter Assault. I suppose eventually since this one is starting out similiar to the original Dawn of war, THQ will come out with add ons and other stand alone games to add the missing factors as time goes by. At least I hope they do. However since this DOW requires running such a high powered computer, I don't know if I'll even buy these if they do come out. In fact I'm so disappointed with DOW II that I might just sell it on EBay and go back to the older games.

This game is using a new graphics engine. That and your graphics card is why you can't play on high settings. No offense but your card is old and is a horrible gaming card, its core clock and memory clock are slow and it only has 4 pixel pipes. I also believe the 7300 has only 256MB of on-board memory but can support another 256mb of your desktop memory.

I still have a single core Athlon FX-57 CPU running my machine, an 8800GTS 512MB video card and 3GB of ram and the game runs very nice. This game definitely does not take a high powered computer to run, just a decent video card and memory.

In regards to game play, I like to base build also and was disappointed they changed the game style.
EA is the anti-Midas touch company. Everything they touch turns to garbage.

I was also disapointed that it uses Steam, as I also never use my games for online play. I had the same problem with HL2, I just dislike Steam. I only recently got an internet connection in this room, so up until recently I couldn't play any single player games as they require online registration 1st!

And why bother making a CD for HL2 and DoW2 when you have to download it off steam anyways?

Ok, mini rant over- I actually love this game. I just wish I could play more than 4 squads at a time- I haven't used my scouts at all as there simply isn't the slots for them, and I hate to have to chose between a tactical squad and a dreadnaught!

well let me see if I can answer some of these rants, cause I hate steam too id much rather use xfire to find people to play with but I believe that you must use steam because epic wanted alot of piracy to stop happening, the steam I believe (not a fact but a theory!) is used to help stop pirating the game that why the no cd fix has to be used from a seperate app instead of replacing the regular program with a fixed version.
Yes, the game uses a new engine(thank god!,bout time!) from the last one's of the original dawn of war and the countless add-ons/extra races and I still play all the old ones because of its online and skirmish replayability. anyway the new engine does use alot of processor power and graphics card video memoryI have a Toshiba Satellite x205-s7483 with 4gigs ram and a Nvidia GeForce 8700m GT so its a gaming laptop that I hook up to my hdtv and Syncmaster LCD, for obvious reasons. so I can use ultra at low resolution settings but I usually use the regular High Settings, with better resolution. I mean ultra settings are cool and all but there isnt that much of a difference so I wouldnt worry about the ultra setting.
    PEACE!

All I see in this game is Spore Effect: we were expecting a improved DOW and we got a whole new strategy game. And it is a good game, but it's a bit shallow cause we're used to think our strategies based on the structures we'd start with and the units...
It's not a bad game at all, but simply not what I was expecting. And from the review I've read around, the new CoH expansion will follow that line(few units and no base).

But there's a great thing in DOWII: you get to fight Zergs until SCII is still in production

First off ... saying that the game is hard to run is an insult to relic and THQ. This is probably one of the best optimised gamed I've ever played considering the amount of detail they put into the game.

Secondly you say you like an older game due to being able to running it on higer settings? *slaps self* It's a 5 year old game for christ sake.

Third your comparing a newly released game's content to something that's had what......5 expansions? I'm sorry but my brain hurts after reading your post.

And FYI the game is easily moddable, hit Relic's forums for faq's.

Only way this post makes sense is if you are being ironic.
