I haven't experienced this phenomenon. I have no glitches when I restore the game after alt-tabbing.

    Are you pausing first?

It happens if your PC don't have enough RAM or weak graphical card.
When you alt-tab your RAM have to be cleared to have enough place for desktop and so when you return to game it's just clean.

It's maybe also bug of xlive because it fade in explorer into the game.

    As she said.
Ready-Boost technology is also a good thing that Microsoft has added to Vista.
I am using it and since then I can see a speed improvement of about 10%.

I wonder what it will be on the new Windows 7. The beta turns out to be really stable and fast.

I have 2gb of ram and the game only uses 768mb and I have a 7600gt so it isn't my hardware, and I don't have vista, many people have this problem

You need at least a GeForce 7900 card with 256 MB in order to run GTA4. So that might be the error.
