the SHA1 hash in the .cat file used by xlive works similarly, but there is more embedded functions within xlive that the game uses (not just checking changes in the memory of the .exe at runtime). SHA1 scans are becoming more commonplace it seems.

if anyone has opened up the files and found player health, gun clip amounts, or cost of items in any files, that would help us to perhaps make a file changer or something.

unfortunately this information does not help us to make a real-time trainer for the game.

thanks again for the information though-

    hasnt sha-1 been cracked?
would post a link but not sure i can.

Besides this encryption crap is far beyond my knowledge.

    on a side note.

ar_stats has something about incrementing health in it. dont know how its done etc or whether its relevant. Was gonna edit it and then buy a hot dog etc see if it does anything, but it has stuff about increasing stamina, weight etc which ive not noticed having any effect in game (ie i dont notice nikos stamina increasing or niko getting fat)

Settings (And savegames) appear to be stored in the "C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV" folder (Vista, bit different on XP with a "Documents and Settings" folder instead of the "User" folder and "Application Data" instead of "Appdata" ) - Doesn't mean much though as none of the files can be edited normally (Compressed perhaps? or encrypted?)

Also, if the settings appear to reset at each start of the game deleting them from this folder and resetting things to default should make them "stick" - just don't touch the savegames.

EDIT: Seems I accidentally created a smily, removed it.

I see what you mean. They really dont want us playing with it do they. Apparently they've already had tons of returns on the game already. At least mods are out.

Been staring at that for a while. So far the only worthy ones cropped up are things you could possibly change the time of day with. Besides I thought the game checked for attempts to fiddle these, which was the problem.
