says for patch game but I don't see any mention of their being a patch for this game yet. Does mean that never winter nights 2 has to be this version? or is there a patch for this new expantion already?

It's an expansion that requires the original game. When you install it the game engine will be patched to the one listed. It was the same thing with the first expansion, Mask of the Betrayer.
As far as actual patches go, there's an included updater that will check for and download/install any patches.
Actually it looks like there is a patch out. Hardly surprising given Obsidian's track record. Use the patcher to download it like I said.
