ok...information information
1) what OS are you using? 2) what game version is this? 3) is it (heaven forbid) a warez version? 4) are you using a "fixed" exe (even if it isn't a warez version)? 5) is a trainer active? 6) are you connected to live?
in my case the answers are: 1) windows xp 2) collectors edition purchased at gamestop 3) nope 4) nope 5) nope - and why? 6) nope - for some reason i can't connect (possible i "permanently" disabled live on my comp at some point or my live profile "expired)
incidentally i have no problems opening the console (`~) at first all it is is a flashing cursor located in the bottom left of the screen - it can be opened at anytime

guys if the HUD goes away the console is open regardless of whether or not you can see it. I run the game at 1280x1024 and i can't see the console. but all the cheats go in perfectly.
ontop of that, if i go to 1024x768 or 1280x960 i can see it fine.
also has anyone tried the addachievement cheat yet?

How to increase wight limit!
Ok, quick note on how carrying capacity work. There are three factors (yes three) that determine carrying capacity: Strength, the carrying capacity multiplier (set to 10 by default), plus the base setting for carrying weight (150). The base amount is the minimum amount of carrying capacity you can have, which is set by the following code:
setgs fAVDCarryWeightsBase xxx
This is all you really need to change your carrying capacity. Note that you do have to re-enter the code each time you start the game, but you shouldn't have to re-enter it between loads.
The second, less effective way to change your carrying capacity is by changing the multiplier by using
setgs fAVDCarryWeightMult xxx
The number you enter will be multiplied by your strength, and the result will be added on to your base carry weight to determine the total, i.e. if you have a base of 150, plus a strength of 10 with the default multiplier of 10, your total carry weight is 250. I'm not sure where the strong back perk modifies carry weight yet, which would be invaluable for a trainer, however I'll keep looking and hopefully I'll be able to come across something. (I don't make trainers, but it might be helpful for those who do).
