Sounds like your new to the series. Try lowering the difficulty in the options menu, and make sure your leveling up your character, if your not sure go to the character screen in the start menu and press Y to auto-upgrade. Then go back in the options menu and put on the auto-levelup for your character, the game will then automatically level you up each time. Doing so will increase your heath and other attributes.
