Like the title says, i found Spore to be a rather disappointing game. So much hype about it, yet, it just didn't live up to expectations, at least for me. After the initial OMGWTFCOOL!!! stage of making a creature and getting it to evolve to the creature stage...it was..ok...then it simply went way down hill from there. I found the game play tedious and repetitive in places or just annoying in others.

I completed most of it quickly, then got a bit into the space section...and gave up completely. Once of the biggest waste of money i have spent on a game, and believe me, i have bought many. I couldn't even take the sodding game back because it uses online registration.

Anyone else feel the same way about this game?

Yes. Couldn't drag myself to do anything besides create creatures after the 1st day I bought it. Tribal stage then called it quits.

I do agree that Spore was over-hyped and it didn't meet everyone's expectations. But it still is a decent game, if you truly can get into it.
The thing Spore really does is shows people what's possible with the technology we have. Spore introduced procedural generation into the gaming mechanics. It allows people to create functional Pixar-esque creations with an artist's touch.
I suppose to truly enjoy the game you have to like technology alot, and be a fan of the Sims type games.

Though, Spore is no Alone in the Dark.

The only two stages that take me any amount of time to finish is Creature Stage (Mainly to get all the parts for when I move to Tribal I can make my creature look like I want it to, not using parts to max out stuff to attack or Singing etc) and Space Stage because it's so huge.

Tribal and Civ stage can be beaten in about 20-30 minutes each, really.

In Tribal I just immediately have the two guys go gather or fish, and pop out the max amount of babies, wait until I have enough money to buy the Didgeriedoo, or horn or maracas, assign the two of each, and ally the other tribe.
The second a new one appears I bring a gift around to all of them to get a blue smiley, and then wait until my food builds up, then I hit one tribe with 2 instruments each ally with them, make the third instruments, assign two to each, ally etc etc, until I have enough Trib Members to assign 3 instruments each, then I ally the rest of the map

Civ stage, I Immediately build as many land vehicles as I can, send them all out to take over the spice geysers, if I'm lucky an Economic civ pops ups, so I take convert that immediately and keep Economic as the specialty, sell all my religious vehicles and get everyone to blue smiley status, propose trade routes to all, and sit back and have a sandwich, everybody joins me after a while and the stage is over.

I only felt disappointed about the part where i noticed: i can't drag bodies, creatures walk around the planet eating grass as it shows in the trailer, the realistic plants from the video footage of the game, the bad movement in civilization and tribal stage and that i can't make a vehicle the same way as i can make a creature, making body parts symmetrical and on each side.

I just think they removed a lot of stuff... but then again people was too eager to get the game that i think they released with a lot of missing parts.

It was an over hyped game yes, but we are the ones who over hyped it.
Though I am kind of tired of people getting the game and saying a day later that they "beat" the game. You can't "beat" spore, it's like the Sims in that manner it's endless, unless you die. But, I suppose people are entitled to their opinions. Also I just find so much fun in seeing what other people made with this game. There's just so much difference between what I would think to create and the vast variety of what everyone else creates.
