i tried to delete the spore_game.package and just leave the spore_game folder but Spore wouldn't load that way. So I had to repack it.

No, I had to extract the spore_game.package file, as geos instructed at the bottom of the first page of posts.

I have the same problem as Gavinhawk. The files open up as gibberish, did anyone figure this out? Here is a sample:

which file did you open? (filename?)

Well, any file will do, but specifically, try

SP-_CHT-024A0E52-00000000-8C47952D.txt

pc or mac? how did you buy it? (dvd or download? where?)

Version 0.21 is broken.
Use V0.22 (at the same link www.customsims3.com/forum1/wbin/SpViewDL.html). Since your install was successful, you only need the update package, which is much smaller.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but I broke the decompression when I made the V0.21 update (the first post-game-release version).
