This is weird, because I had a stupid conversation with my dad about what pickled peppers were.
I thought they were cucumber pickles or something.

no, pickles are pickled cucumbers....
pickled peppers are peppers that have been fermented by a specific process using mostly vinegar and salt
i believe banana peppers are pickled...if not they taste like it.
