Describe harvesters duties

They harvest Tiberium,green crystals which can kill humans,basicly they are very toxic.Without the harvesters,you cannot collect Tiberium,which is the main resource for producing units and constructing buildings.

On which mission,in GDI campaign, you get control of Ion Cannon?

I can't recall exactly , but I think you get to fire the Ion Cannon in the first mission to eliminate the nod base beyond the river ...
